Physician Dispensing Allowed:

Illinois requires no permits or registration for physicians to dispense medications at the point of care. If a physician follows all state and federal laws for prescription drugs they have the right to dispense out of their practice during the normal course of practicing medicine. A registration is required for an Illinois physician licensed who orders for and dispenses to a patient a controlled substance for the patient’s use. Illinois requires that the physician fill out a controlled substances registration form and pay the applicable fee.

Required Documentation:

No dispensing license or registration is required for non-controlled substances. A dispensing registration and permit is required for controlled substances and depending on the physician’s and patient’s individual need to dispense.
