Minnesota

Physician Dispensing Allowed:

Yes

Overview/Guidelines:

The state of Minnesota requires no fee to dispense medication in-office. The Minnesota Board of Medical Practice does require physicians to register in order to notify them the physician is dispensing drugs for profit. Profit is defined as: (a) the amount received by a physician (or physician assistant, if delegated) over and above the acquisition cost for pre-packaged drugs or (b) the amount received by a physician over and above the acquisition cost plus the cost of compounding, packaging, or other treatment for drugs which are not pre-packaged. This notification gives a physician who is authorized to prescribe medications in the state the ability to dispense those medications during the normal course of practicing medicine as long has he or she complies with state and federal law.
